Case A
Student records and exam results
Label: "education data in the cloud"- A national education authority keeps grades and final exam results for about 250,000 students. Most of them are minors.
- About 400 schools enter grades through a web application.
- Exam results are published once a year on a fixed national date. A failure in that week affects every student.
- Certificates must stay verifiable for decades.
- The system exchanges data with the national identity register.
Not known: which data protection law applies, recovery targets, budget.
Case B
AI assistant for teachers
Label: "education data in the cloud"- About 30,000 teachers ask an AI assistant to draft lesson plans from the public national curriculum.
- The assistant runs an open language model and needs GPU servers for it.
- Use peaks on Sunday evenings and before term starts, and is almost zero in the holidays.
- Teachers sometimes type student names into their questions.
- If the assistant is down for a while, teachers use the curriculum documents directly.
Not known: how long questions and answers are kept, budget.
